Lisa Cossy, Ph.D. Clinical Psychologist
Don't Let Your Struggle Determine Your Identity
My Story
Hello,

My name is Lisa. I am a Registered Clinical Psychologist in the island of Barbados.

At age 7, I declared my plan to become a doctor. I had a trusty doctor's kit, I had practiced with my toy stethoscope on my siblings and I thought that I'd like a career that involved helping people stay healthy and recover from illnesses. When I started studying chemistry and complex math, I knew this would no longer be my path :) plus, working with large amounts of blood during ER training was not something I would enjoy.
Based on these discoveries, I got stuck during my late teen years, trying to figure out what I'd do with my life. Then this happened.......... A chance encounter with a teenage girl, recovering from a manic episode, led me to the mental health section of the public library. The books were old and the choices were limited, but I became fully engrossed in the process of recovering from emotional and mental health conditions and I've never looked back.

In my work, I aim to lead with compassion and kindness. Many persons bring with them a sense of shame, fear of being judged and fear about what to expect. It is therefore essential for psychologists to have a strong sense of compassion, sound knowledge of good clinical practices, good communication skills and solid self-awareness.

In addition to these qualities, I have graduate and post-graduate degrees in Psychology and Clinical Psychology from the University of the West Indies. I also have a Master's degree and a Doctoral degree in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences from the University of Western Ontario. My classroom education has been strengthened by work and internship experiences in Probation Services, a Women's Shelter, the Juvenile and Adult Justice System, Child Welfare Services, a University Counselling Centre, a Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic and a Psycho-educational testing practice.

I specialize in providing high quality psycho-educational assessments for children, teens and adults who are experiencing developmental, academic and emotional difficulty. I also provide therapy for a range of life challenges and mental health issues.
Feel free to reach out if you'd like to know more.
